Dirty Sodas Have Arrived in Bedford: The Village Taphouse Is First, and We’re Doing It Properly

Dirty Sodas Have Arrived in Bedford, and The Village Taphouse Is First

Bedford has a new drink obsession. And it is not a beer. It is not a cocktail.

It is a Dirty Soda, and The Village Taphouse is proud to be the first business in Bedford to make and sell them.

If you have not tried one yet, think of it like this: the nostalgic fun of fountain pop, upgraded into a craveable, custom drink with bright flavors, creamy swirls, and add-ins that taste like a dessert and a refresher at the same time.

And yes, it is non-alcoholic. On purpose.

Why we launched Dirty Sodas now

The drinking world is changing. More people want great nights out with great drinks, without needing alcohol. Sometimes people are driving. Sometimes they are training. Sometimes they are cutting back. Sometimes they just want something fun that is not a beer.

We see that shift clearly, and we are not waiting for Halifax to “catch up.”

At The Village Taphouse, we like to get ahead of the wave. Not because we chase fads, but because we pay attention to what people are actually asking for.

Dirty Sodas are exactly that: a fun, social, exciting drink that fits the modern moment.

The show that supercharged the Dirty Soda trend

Dirty Sodas have been a Utah favourite for years, but they exploded into broader pop culture thanks to the Hulu reality series The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives. The show highlights a lifestyle where alcohol is often avoided, and Dirty Sodas become the go-to “treat” drink, ordered with the same enthusiasm other cities reserve for cocktail bars.

In other words, it helped make Dirty Sodas feel not just acceptable, but cool. It brought the trend out of Utah soda shops and into everyday conversations everywhere.

The only other place we have seen in Nova Scotia promoting Dirty Sodas

Here is what makes this even more interesting for Halifax and Bedford.

Outside of The Village Taphouse, the only business we have seen publicly promoting Dirty Sodas in Nova Scotia is Crumbl in Dartmouth, which even advertises Dirty Sodas directly on its Dartmouth store page.

But here is the key difference.

Crumbl is a cookie shop.

We are a bar. And as far as we can tell, no bars in Halifax have made Dirty Sodas a real featured program yet.

That is exactly why we did.

Because it proves something we have believed for a long time: we have the largest and most unique non-alcoholic selection in the area, and we keep finding ways to make it more fun.

Why Dirty Sodas belong in a tapHOUSE

We call ourselves a tapHOUSE because we are more than a tapROOM. We take variety seriously, across beer, cocktails, whisky, and yes, non-alcoholic options.

Dirty Sodas fit that identity perfectly. They are:

  • customizable

  • fast to serve

  • exciting for groups

  • easy to enjoy during events nights

  • perfect for guests who do not drink alcohol

  • still fun for guests who do

And here is the best part.

You can keep it non-alcoholic, or make it yours

Dirty Sodas are incredible on their own. But for guests who want an adult twist, you can add your favourite alcohol.

That means your same base Dirty Soda can go two directions:

  • fully non-alcoholic, bright and refreshing

  • or spiked with the spirit you actually love

No pressure either way. That is the Taphouse rule.

What we’re serving: 8 soda bases, endless combos

We currently offer 8 different soft drink options as the base for your Dirty Soda creations. That is where the fun starts.

From there, we build layered flavors with creamy elements, citrus, syrups, and signature combinations with fun names that sound like they belong on a festival lineup.

If you have ever wanted a drink menu that feels playful but still tastes premium, this is it.

What Dirty Sodas taste like

They hit in three stages.

First sip: cold, fizzy, bright, instantly refreshing.

Second sip: the flavor opens up, fruity or citrusy notes pop, and the drink becomes more complex.

Finish: a smooth creamy swirl that makes it feel indulgent without being heavy.

It is the kind of drink that makes people go, “Wait, what is in this?” and then immediately order another one in a different flavor.

They also photograph beautifully, which is exactly why they spread so fast online.

Why this matters for Bedford and Halifax

This is not just a drink trend. It is a hospitality trend.

People want places where:

  • non-alcoholic choices are not an afterthought

  • ordering alcohol-free feels normal

  • the menu is still exciting

  • the night still feels social

  • nobody gets judged for what is in their glass

That is what we are building at The Village Taphouse.

We can be the place with a massive craft beer selection and rare whisky, while also being the place where non-drinkers feel fully included.

Those two things can exist together, and honestly, they should.

Come try Bedford’s first Dirty Soda program at The Village Taphouse. Get it alcohol-free, or add your favourite spirit. Either way, you’re going to find a new obsession.
