Political Event Venues in Halifax and Bedford: Campaign Nights, Town Halls and Volunteer Thank-Yous

Political Event Venue in Halifax and Bedford: All Parties Welcome

We host political events for every party and every level of government, at the same rate, on the same terms. Municipal, provincial and federal. Nominated candidates, riding associations, volunteer teams and the groups that are not partisan at all.

The short pitch is that we are a craft beer, wine, cocktail and whisky bar in West Bedford, Nova Scotia, with a microphone, free parking, room for up to 125 people and no rental fee for most bookings. The longer version is below.

The events that work here

Campaign launches and kickoffs. A room that holds a crowd, a microphone that carries, and a bar that keeps the volunteers around after the speech. Semi-private for a smaller launch, or the whole room for a larger one.

Volunteer appreciation nights. The people who knock on doors in November rain deserve a proper thank-you. A reserved section, a hosted first round, pizza brought in. This is the most common political booking we take and the one people remember.

Election night watch parties. Our televisions carry the broadcast. The room is set up for a crowd that will get louder as the night goes on, and the parking lot means nobody has to leave early to catch a bus.

Town halls and meet-the-candidate evenings. Rows of chairs facing a speaker, a microphone for questions from the floor, a calm weeknight room. The bar makes it a place people want to come to rather than a place they feel obliged to attend.

Riding association meetings and planning nights. A reserved table on a weeknight, no fee, nothing to sign. If the association meets monthly, we hold the same table on the same night.

Post-event receptions. After the nomination meeting, after the debate, after the count. The room is open and the parking is easy.

The rules, handled plainly

Political financing rules in Nova Scotia and Canada treat goods and services provided to a campaign at below market value as a contribution. We charge every political booking the same rate we charge anyone else, so there is nothing to declare. If your official agent needs an invoice worded a certain way, ask and we will do it.

For fundraisers, your campaign’s own rules apply to the ticket price and the receipts. We will run the room the way you need it run. The Elections Nova Scotia and Elections Canada websites have the current guidance for candidates and agents.

We do not endorse candidates and we do not turn any away. Our guests hold every view there is, and the room stays welcoming to all of them.

What a booking looks like

Semi-private, up to about 80 seated plus standing room. We reserve a section for your group while the venue stays open to the public. No rental fee, no minimum spend. Right for volunteer nights, association meetings and smaller launches.

Fully private, up to 125 guests. The whole room from 7:30pm to midnight, on a minimum drink spend rather than a rental fee. Right for a large launch, a watch party or a fundraiser where you want the doors closed. Daytime private bookings are an hourly rate.

Groups under 30 need nothing on file. Larger groups provide a card to hold the date, with 14 days to cancel and one clear cancellation figure told to you up front. Quotes are held for 30 days, which matters when a writ could drop any week.

The practical things

  • A microphone, with basic audio and video equipment by arrangement. The televisions can carry a slideshow, a livestream or the election broadcast.
  • Free parking right outside, with room for a crowd. Cars can stay overnight.
  • Adults only. We are 19+ throughout.
  • Central. West Bedford is ten to twenty minutes from most of Bedford, Sackville, Hammonds Plains and Halifax, which puts several ridings within easy reach of one room.
  • Wheelchair accessible. Every voter can get in the door.
  • Food your way. We do not run a kitchen. Order in from more than twenty nearby restaurants through our QR system, bring your own, or use a caterer. We handle the cleanup.
  • Drinks for everyone. 36 rotating taps, cocktails under $15, a curated wine list served from the bottle with a strong showing of Nova Scotia wines, and one of the largest non-alcoholic selections in Atlantic Canada for the volunteers who are driving.
