05 Oct Bedford’s Favourite Christmas Venue: Book Your Holiday Party at The Village Taphouse
Christmas Party Venue in Bedford: Book Your Holiday Party Now
The Village Taphouse is where Bedford celebrates Christmas. A warm, fully decorated 19+ room, a section of your own with no rental fee, or the whole Taphouse to yourselves. Groups from eight people to 125. Bring in any food you like, add live music or karaoke, and leave the car in our lot.
Our December calendar fills from the last week of November through Tibb’s Eve, and Saturdays go first. If you have a date in mind, this is the week to hold it.
Email thevillagetaphouse@gmail.com with your date and a rough headcount. We reply the same day and often the same hour.
Why groups keep coming back
We are a craft beer, wine, cocktail and whisky bar in West Bedford, Nova Scotia, and we have hosted the holiday season here for almost five years. Companies, schools, teams, clubs and families book the same week every year because the room does the work.
- We decorate. Lights, greenery, the tree. You walk into Christmas. Bring your own touches if you like, or do not. The room is ready either way.
- The right vibe. Warm lighting, wood and brick, leather sofas, a fireplace, a bar with range. It feels like a night out, not a function room.
- Small parties and big ones. A table for eight, a section for sixty, or the whole room for 125.
- Adults only. We are a 19+ venue, so your party stays grown-up all night.
- Free parking, lots of it. Right outside, and vehicles can stay overnight.
- Central. Ten to twenty minutes from most of Bedford, Sackville, Hammonds Plains and Halifax, with no downtown parking to solve.
Two ways to book
Semi-private: a section of the Taphouse just for your group
A reserved section of the Taphouse just for your group while the rest of the room stays open.
- 80 to 85 seats plus standing and mingling room
- No rental fee and no minimum spend
- Guests order drinks as they like, or you run a tab with a cap, or hand out drink tickets
- Available any day, afternoon or evening
- The best fit for most groups up to around 80, and our standard recommendation for schools and non-profits
This is how most holiday parties book here. Nothing to sign, nothing to pay up front, and the group gets its own corner of a room that already feels like a party.
Private evening: the whole Taphouse, closed to the public
The doors close and the room is yours from 7:30pm to midnight.
- 95 seats plus mingling room, up to 125 guests
- No rental fee, just a minimum drink spend plus tax and 18% gratuity
- Weekend private bookings start at $5,800 minimum spend plus tax and gratuity. Dates closer to Christmas run higher. Weeknights are lower.
- Works best for groups of 85 or more
Everything your guests order at the bar counts toward the minimum. Groups of 85 or more usually come close on their own. Smaller groups will most likely have a gap, which the host covers at the end of the night. We say this to every group that asks, so there are no surprises.
Private daytime: noon to 7pm
For a daytime office party or a school staff celebration, the whole room is yours on an hourly rental. Free with 85 or more guests (110 or more on Friday and Saturday). Otherwise $325 per hour, or $500 per hour on Friday and Saturday with a four-hour minimum.
Holding your date
No deposit. We hold the date with a credit card on file and nothing is charged to it. Groups under 30 do not need a card at all. We ask for 14 days notice to cancel, and final guest numbers 14 days before the party.
Private bookings get a short contract. Semi-private bookings need nothing signed.
Food: bring in or order in, and save
We don’t have a kitchen, and groups tell us that works out in their favour. You can order in from local restaurants, have it catered, or bring your own. Platters from Sobeys, Pete’s or Costco, or pizza from any of the local shops, are what most groups do, and it works out a lot cheaper than a restaurant package. We have a large walk-in fridge for anything that needs to stay cold, and we help with the cleanup afterward.
Sam’s Pizza is right next door, and they offer a discount on pizza for parties booked at the Taphouse. Ask us when you book and we will connect you.
Restaurants that deliver to the Taphouse, or are a short walk away:
Pizza – Sam’s Pizza, next door, party discount – Nayya Pizza – El Centro Pizza – Alexandra’s Pizza – PZZA Co.
Appetizers and shareables – Modern Orchid – Blue Elephant Thai
Sushi – JUKAI Japanese and Thai – Sushi Jet Express
Platters and grocery catering – Pete’s, Sobeys and Costco all do party platters. Order a day or two ahead and pick up on the way.
Charcuterie – Bougie Box Charcuterie
Full catering – Chef Abod Cafe – Pop-Up Plates Catering
The full list of restaurants that deliver here is on our food page. Happy to send some suggestions if you’d like them.
Drinks worth the trip
- 36 rotating taps of craft beer, plus the classics: Keith’s, Guinness, Stella and Bud Light
- Cocktails made with house-pressed juices, priced under $15
- A curated wine list served from the bottle, with a strong showing of Nova Scotia wines
- Rare whisky on a separate menu for the guest who cares
- One of the largest non-alcoholic selections in Atlantic Canada, so the designated driver gets something good in a proper glass
- A specialty drink created for your event, if you want one. Name it after the boss.
For wine with a larger group, we can run an open wine bar over a set window, or hand out drink tickets. Wine can also be sourced from local wineries and stores.
Add something to the night
- Live music. Bring in a musician or band of your own, subject to approval, or ask us to bring one in and split the cost with you for a larger party.
- DJ and dance floor. Hire your own DJ, subject to approval.
- Karaoke. Available on nights when the whole room can join in. Ask about your date.
- Holiday trivia for your section. Your group gets its own TV with the questions and plays on phones or an iPad, no host needed. Send us five or six custom questions about your team and we will mix them in. Free Wi-Fi.
- Music bingo. Available on nights when the whole room is playing.
- Speeches and slideshows. A microphone and basic audio and video equipment are available.
Some add-ons carry a fee depending on the night.
